Hot Time in the City
This year we have been blessed with a mild winter and some truly gorgeous riding weather in the first five months of the
year. Unfortunately, that portends to a blistering, or perhaps more precisely a steamy summer in Houston this year.
(If we don't get a break from the drought, it just might be blistering!) An early morning ride without too many
stops, capped with a meal in a local bistro is a great way to forget about the heat and enjoy your cycling buds. How
about an in town ride on June 12 starting at 8:00 AM, led by Jim and Ruth Fleshman,
starting from their home at 3711 Glen Haven, east of Stella Link and south of Bellaire Blvd. And
don't forget to mark your calendars for the Mahoney's July 23rd Riverhaven Ride. Riding is optional! (Wankers
feel free to show up in your swim suit and play in the water. Boat rides for the willing.)

New TOP HATS
Janet and Stephen Bain have volunteered to take the wind and lead the club for the coming year. Catching them exhausted
and overworked as the unseen heros of the 2011 SWTR, Hugh offered the Bains the opportunity to jump on the front and lead
the peleton for the foreseeable future. I know everyone welcomes them, thankfully, and with a great sigh of relief and
gratitude. Janet and Stephen, you have but to ask and you will find all the help you want or need for your new position.

2011 SWTR
The 2011 Southwest Tandem Rally is this weekend in La Grange, Texas. Tandemists from all over the USA will journey to
the rally for three days of riding and fellowship. Always a great event, this year it will be hosted by the Houston
club, HATS. Don't miss it.

January, 23, 2011, The Chili Ride Not that
I'd know, but the day seemed perfect for a bike ride. The food, I'm told, was plentiful and I'll vouch that
some of it was delicious. The group was sympathetic and interested.

March 13, 1999 St. Patrick's Day Parade A small contingency
of intrepid HATS members joined the strip joints, bars, eateries of Richmond Street and others in the frigid cold to celebrate
St. Paddy's day. Things to note: our clothing (it was bitterly cold!), how small Amanda was, the "clown
bikes" (sorry, Hanz...they didn't believe they were Real bikes) and the Out of Towner HATS.

SWTR Double DATES hosted
tandem rally in Tyler, Texas. About the turn of the century?
